Following his Instagram announcement that he will be vying for the ‘Honourable’ seat of the Ogbomoso North Constituency in the 2015 general elections, Abolore ‘9ice’ Alande has confirmed toHipHopWorldMagazine.com that he’s quitting music, saying it’s no more challenging.
“I’m leaving music, I need to go into something more challenging”, the singer told the paper (Jan. 15) at the Industry Nite gig held at Oriental Hotel, Lagos.
The father of three, whose 2008 single ‘Gongo Aso’ and album ushered him into the league of A-list artistes and landed him in super stardom, believes he has achieved all there is to be achieved in music and ready to move on.
“Music is no longer competitive for me, I’ve done all that needs to be done in music”, he said.
9ice is known for his use of the Yoruba language in his music and mixes Yoruba proverbs with English, broken English, Hausa and Ibo sometimes.
9ice may have released eight albums – Certificate in 2007, Gongo Aso (2008), Tradition (2009), Versus (2011), Bashorun Gaa (2011), Deluxe Version Versus and Bashorun Gaa (2011), he may have bagged a truck-load of coveted awards, in Nigeria and beyond, but has he really achieved all there is to be achieved in music, and enough for him to quit?
