Mixed reactions trailed Pastor W.F Kumuyi’s statement yesterday on Christmas and the way Christians go all out to celebrate it.
During the just concluded 2013 Deeper Life National December retreat, the respected cleric and founder of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor Kumuyi, called on his members to stop celebrating Christmas, saying that it is idolatrous.
In a message broadcasted live, he said the birth of Christ should not only be celebrated just once in year but everyday.
According to the Pastor “We don’t celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don’t hear us sing what they call Christmas carol, Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is holiday period and love the Lord more, and rededicate ourselves more.”
Kumuyi also decried how people squander millions just to celebrate ‘a one-day Christmas’, asking his congregation to seek first the kingdom of God, noting that all other things would be added unto them.
The pastor added that the church’s duty is to make people be more like Jesus and not join worldly celebrations.
