ASSAD: ONE YEAR TO DESTROY CHEMICAL WEAPONS

   Syrian President Bashar al- Assad says his regime will comply with demands to hand over and destroy chemical weapons but says it will take time and money- up to $1 billion by some estimate.
   He also said he will welcome the U N inspectors to follow up on more allegations of chemical weapons use in his country and that his Government's decision to sign on had nothing to do with a threat of military action by the United States but that he actually responded to the Russian initiative.
